STRATFORD MIDDLE SCHOOL

WORLD GEOGRAPHY

COACH BRYANT

Welcome to World Geography! This year we will ‘visit’ many countries to explore their physical features, cultures, history, and economic systems. The main purpose of this course is for students to broaden their understanding of the different types of geography around the world.

Course Objectives

  • Demonstrate social studies research skills

  • Compare and contrast selected landforms and regions of the world

  • Demonstrate basic skills associated with geography

  • Develop an understanding of the terms relating to geography

  • Develop the skills to comprehend and use those terms to better understand the content

Methods of Instruction

A combination of lecture, reading and writing assignments, videos, worksheets, quizzes, and tests will be used to meet class objectives.

Assignments

All assignments are to be done individually unless specifically stated by the teacher. Students who copy work from others, or allow others to copy work from them are guilty of cheating. This will not be tolerated, and will result in a zero.

All assignments are to be done on the “due by” date, any assignment that is late will be given half credit. Assignments missed due to an absence will follow handbook guidelines.

Grading

Grades will be determined by test scores, homework scores, and any special assignments required. Final grades are calculated on a total point/percentage system.

Class Rules and Procedures

  1. Always be prepared for class. Bring all supplies needed for success.

  2. Be in class and seated before the tardy bell rings.

  3. Check the board for the day's assignment.

  4. Raise your hand to ask questions.

  5. Respect the rights and property of others. If it isn’t yours, don’t touch it.

Restroom Procedures

You should only use the restroom in the case of an emergency. You must raise your hand and ask permission to use the restroom. Anyone leaving the classroom for any reason must have the hall pass with them at all times.

******IF I FEEL A STUDENT IS ABUSING THE RESTROOM POLICY, I MAY LIMIT THE NUMBER OF TIMES THEY MAY LEAVE THE CLASSROOM.******

The break between classes is for the students to use the restroom if needed, not to talk to their friends!

REMEMBER!

The classroom is a learning environment and I will do everything in my power to see that it stays that way by maintaining proper discipline by whatever means necessary under the guidelines of the school handbook. Punishments for not following the class rules or procedures may include; assigned seating, written assignments, lunch detention, snack break detention, or in-school detention that may be assigned by the principal.

This class can be enjoyed by both the students and myself if everyone will work together by following the rules and procedures set forth in this course syllabus. I look forward to having a great year and hope that you do the same.
